frequently asked questions
DO I NEED A CONSULTATION?
Consultations are free and highly recommended. A consultation is important to discuss what you need/want beforehand so we can make your photo session go as smoothly as possible. Certain aspects of your photo session are your responsibility (such as your wardrobe), so I want you to be aware of this in order to make your shoot a success. We’re all busy, so we can do a phone consultation.
HOW LONG DOES A PHOTO SESSION TAKE?
This depends upon your needs. I’ve found most clients tend to spend between 1 to 2 hours with me. Don’t forget you may need some time to “settle down and warm up”, so don’t try to schedule in too much around your photo session.
For boudoir in particular, I suggest that you set aside several hours for your photos so you don’t have to be rushed. You’ll have time to get your hair and makeup done and with plenty of time to feel relaxed and refreshed – important for the best photos possible. It also takes most ladies awhile to get comfortable enough to take their best photos.
WHERE CAN WE TAKE PHOTOS?
Sessions are normally photographed either in my studio or in your home, but we can do other locations such as a hotel. We can discuss other locations, but we must bear in mind the intimacy of boudoir photography.
TRAVEL AND OTHER CHARGES
There is no charge for my travel to areas within roughly 30 miles of Smyrna, Delaware. For portrait sessions further than away that, there is a flat rate of $0.50 per mile. There may also be additional charges such as for parking, which is passed onto you. Some venues may charge admission fees or photography fees, which you also cover.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
If you are having a boudoir photo session, be sure to wear loose clothing so you don’t have lines or marks indented in your skin. That includes tight fitting underwear – those things can leave marks and you don’t want them showing in your photos. So it’s best to go without a bra and panties for the hours prior to your photo session.
(You’re wondering about photoshopping out the unwanted bra or panty lines, right? Yes, I can photoshop almost anything, but photoshopping actually takes hours of work, so the idea is to avoid photoshopping whenever possible. I will take care of little blemishes like that unexpected zit, but for any “blemishes” that are avoidable such as lines from tight underwear or clothing, there is an extra charge for that. Sorry, but I’m a business person after all and have to mind the profit margin!)
What should you wear for a boudoir shoot? Here are some ideas, pick what feels best :
- Lovely lingerie, as you might get from Victoria’s Secret or another boutique.
- A fun teddy or sexy negligee.
- A man’s white dress shirt or uniform shirt with high heels.
- A sports jersey or cheerleader outfit.
- Almost anything lacy or sheer.
- A corset, cincher or bustier.
- Almost anything with an animal print.
- High heels and fishnet stockings.
- A cool biker’s jacket.
- Pearls, feathers, boas or ribbons.
- Swim wear or a slinky cover-up.
- Vintage apparel and props for a pin-up or old Hollywood look.
- A costume – check out Party City for all kinds of things!
- Leather and lace or even latex, if you’re into that sort of thing.
- Draped in a silk sheet (I can provide those)
CAN I BRING THE KIDS WITH?
NO! There is no safe and secure place for younger kids to play and there’s nobody to watch them, so you MUST get a baby-sitter. Sorry, but if you do bring them with, we will not have the photo session. This is a safety issue – we both want your kids to be safe and you to have great photos. This is a rule I will enforce – no kids or no photos. If you’re spending the money for fabulous photos, spend a little bit more for child care and the ensuing peace of mind that they are being well cared for.
The same thing goes for men or your significant other – leave them behind or send them off to the movies for the afternoon! Very few women really relax enough for good photos when that other person is present. We don’t need the distractions – having a professional photo session is a lot of work!
PAYMENT & SCHEDULING INFORMATION:
Upon scheduling your session, the appropriate deposit/booking fee is required to reserve your spot, which will be deducted from the final price. There is a non-refundable deposit is required to hold your date. If you need to reschedule, I require 48 hours notice unless it’s an emergency. Your deposit will be applied towards another date chosen within 30 days. After 30 days or a second cancellation, you forfeit your deposit. Your deposit will be put towards the total balance due.
If I (as photographer) must cancel a photo session for any reason, you will have the choice to either reschedule the shoot or have your deposit refunded in full, with no further liability. This is the only instance in which the deposit is refundable.
CAN YOU TOUCH UP BLEMISHES?
I can do basic skin perfecting such as removing or diminishing blemishes, scars, dark circles under the eyes, puffy eyes, etc. This is especially true for temporary boo-boos such as pimples or puffy hayfever eyes. There may be an extra fee if you request extensive retouching however, including indentation lines from snug clothing.
DO YOU OFFER A GUARANTEE?
Yes! If your are not happy with the results of your photo shoot, I will retake your photographs free of charge or refund your money. But to avoid this, we need to be clear on what you are looking for in your photographs. I’m not a traditional photographer, so if that’s what you’re looking for, there are plenty of good photographers who can help you out. But if you are looking for something very unique and different, then I’m sure we can work together!
