frequently asked questions

Consultations are free and highly recommended. A consultation is important to discuss what you need/want beforehand so we can make your photo session go as smoothly as possible. Certain aspects of your photo session are your responsibility (such as your wardrobe), so I want you to be aware of this in order to make your shoot a success.

This depends upon your needs. Sessions can last from 15 or 20 minutes for some basic headhsots to even several hours. I’ve found most clients tend to spend between 1 to 1 1/2 hours with me. Don’t forget you may need some time to “settle down and warm up”, so don’t try to schedule in too much around your photo session.

For boudoir in particular, I suggest that you set aside an entire day for your photos so you don’t have to be rushed. You’ll have time to get your hair and makeup done and with plenty of time to feel relaxed and refreshed – important for the best photos possible. It also takes most ladies awhile to get comfortable enough to take their best photos.

Sessions are normally photographed either in my studio in center city Philadelphia or outdoors. Outdoor sessions can be in the city for a very modern urban look, in one of the many parks in the Philly area or other areas that you might like such as Longwood Gardens. Note that additional travel fees may apply. Contact me to discuss the possibilities.

If you want photos taken at locations such as admission-only gardens, historic houses, hotels, etc., we can do that but we may need to obtain proper permissions from the facilities and some may charge an extra photographic fee which you would pay for. Such locations may also have a waiting period, so they need to be planned ahead for. Note – you must provide your own driver and vehicle.

There is no charge for my travel to areas within roughly 20 miles of zip code 19135 (northeast Philly). For portrait sessions further than away that, there is a flat rate of $0.50 per mile. There may also be additional charges such as for parking, which is passed onto you. Some venues may charge admission fees or photography fees, which you also cover.

For most portraits, I strongly advise wearing plain colors – NOT prints. BLACK is an especially good color for almost everyone (it really is slimming!). Unless you’re well toned, it’s usually best to avoid sleeveless shirts and wear something with sleeves. Oversized or overly abundant jewelry can also detract from your photos – we want to showcase YOU, not your jewelry. We can discuss clothing choices in our pre-shoot consultation. Wardrobe choice is important and is part of your responsibility to make your photos as good as possible.

For the best photos, you need to feel good and feel comfortable. If that means wearing your grungy t-shirt then go for it! That works perfectly for a modern urban style portrait. I have found that most people end up taking the best photos when they’re wearing jeans and a favorite shirt. If you want to wear high heeled shoes for an outdoor photo session in an area with hills or uneven terrain, I strongly suggest bringing a pair of flat shoes to wear when we’re walking around – this is for your safety.

For beauty / boudoir photos, here are some suggestions.

Unless it’s a family photo session or your kids are teenagers, then the answer is NO! There is no safe and secure place for younger kids to play and there’s nobody to watch them, so you MUST get a baby-sitter. Sorry, but if you do bring them with, we will not have the photo session. This is true whether we’re doing boudoir photography or street portraits. This is a safety issue – we both want your kids to be safe and you to have great photos. This is a rule I will enforce – no kids or no photos. If you’re spending the money for fabulous photos, spend a little bit more for child care and the ensuing peace of mind that they are being well cared for.

Upon scheduling your session, the appropriate deposit/booking fee (paid through paypal) is required to reserve your spot, which will be deducted from the final price. Payments may be made via PayPal, check, money order or cash. Sorry but I’m currently not able to accept credit card payments.

**Deposits: a $50 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your date. If you need to reschedule, I require 48 hours notice. Your deposit will be applied towards another date chosen within 30 days. After 30 days or a second cancellation, you forfeit your deposit. Your deposit will be put towards the total balance due.

If I (as photographer) must cancel a photo session for any reason, you will have the choice to either reschedule the shoot or have your deposit refunded in full, with no further liability. This is the only instance in which the deposit is refundable.

I can do basic skin perfecting such as removing or diminishing blemishes, scars, dark circles under the eyes, puffy eyes, etc. This is especially true for temporary boo-boos such as pimples or puffy hayfever eyes. There may be an extra fee if you request extensive retouching however.

Yes! If your are not happy with the results of your photo shoot, I will retake your photographs free of charge or refund your money. But to avoid this, we need to be clear on what you are looking for in your photographs. I’m not a traditional photographer, so if that’s what you’re looking for, there are plenty of good photographers who can help you out. But if you are looking for something very unique and different, then I’m sure we can work together!

Prices subject to change at any time.
